MMA Update


It's been a busy week in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira suffered a back injury and had to pull out of his fight with Mauricio Rua at UFC 161. Enter former middle weight and light heavy weight contender.




Coming off his beating of his career light weight, turned middle weight turned back to light heavy weight contender, Chael Sonnen stepped in on less than two weeks notice.

According to sources, visa issues hampered this fight from happening. But it was announced on Wednesday that the fight would go on but at a later date. According to our friends over at MMAMania, Sonnen/Shogun will serve as the main even of UFC on Fox Sports 11 on Aug. 17, 2013.

The card is looking like it is starting to shape:
265 lbs.: Alistair Overeem vs. Travis Browne
135 lbs.: Yuri Alcantara vs. Urijah Faber
170 lbs.: Thiago Alves vs. Matt Brown
135 lbs.: Brad Pickett vs. Michael McDonald
155 lbs.: Michael Johnson vs. Joe Lauzon
145 lbs.: Conor McGregor vs. Andy Ogle
185 lbs.: Uriah Hall vs. Nick Ring
145 lbs.: Mike Brown vs. Akira Corassani

Moving on, GSP has filmed his newest commercial for NOS and lets just hope he gets his acting chops up before the new Captain America movie.



- Big news, BJJ whiz Robert Drysdale will finally be making his octagon debut. You should remember him from his 6-0 record or his sweet flying arm bar:



Drysdale will take on Ednaldo Oliveira at the UFC 163: "Aldo vs. Pettis" pay-per-view (PPV) event on Aug. 3, 2013 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. All six of his victories have been by submission.

Nibbles and Bits:

- Michael Bisping will not be able to fight until at least October because of surgery to repair is detached retina.

-BJ Penn is talking a comeback. He is throwing around the idea of making a return to the lightweight division.

-Benson Henderson has accepted his next fight. He will defend his LW belt against TJ Grant at UFC 164 on Aug 31st.
